Oregon student wins National Aspirations in Computing Award

Pauline Petersen, a junior at Lakeridge High School, has received a prestigious award from the National Center for Women in Information Technology.
The National Center for Women in Information Technology has honored a local student with its National Aspirations in Computing Award.
Pauline Petersen, a junior at Lakeridge High School, was selected as a national award recipient by the NCWIT she is one of 400 out of more than 4,000 applicants.
Petersen is also a regional winner for Oregon and Southwest Washington.
Award recipients are selected based on demonstrated interest and achievements in computing, leadership skills, academic performance and future college plans in the field, according to a news release. ....

Lake Oswego teacher Brian Bartsch dies unexpectedly
Brian Bartsch was a health and physical education teacher, football coach in Lake Oswego.
Lake Oswego School District Superintendent Jennifer Schiele announced in a message to the community that a district teacher, Brian Bartsch, died unexpectedly over the weekend.
Our condolences to his family and loved ones and all in our community who have been touched by this loss of life. My heart goes out to you, she said.
Bartsch taught physical education and health in the district. During his time in the district, he taught at Lake Oswego High School, Lake Oswego Middle School and Lakeridge Middle School. He also coached in the LOHS football program. ....

PORTLAND, Ore., June 14, 2021 /PRNewswire/  The Harold & Arlene Schnitzer CARE Foundation today announced $550,000 in grants to 81 nonprofits and school programs throughout Oregon. These grants were made possible through CommuniCare, a year-long leadership program that gives Oregon high school students an opportunity to learn about issues affecting their communities to facilitate a deeper commitment to social activism.
