Council staff front up after dead animals found in Akaroa's water reservoir

Water is being trucked in from Christchurch, about 80 kilometres away.
Medical officer of health Dr Cheryl Brunton said as of 4pm on Monday, there had been no notifications reported of illness due to the water in Akaroa.

Residents in Akaroa and Takamatua will have to keep boiling their water, possibly for several weeks, after two possums and two birds were found in the water reservoir.
The risk to people’s health was believed to be low due to the large volume of water in the reservoir, but there was a potential for people to develop gastro illnesses if they did not boil the water first, Brunton said. ....
