Armed Robber Out-Gunned, Taken Down By Store Employees

An armed robber in Cleveland has his plans ruined Friday by two convenience store employees who were not about to become victims.
Employees of a convenience store in the city’s Stockyards neighborhood thwarted an armed robbery Friday by sneaking up behind the masked gunmen, putting a gun to his back and firing warning shots into the ceiling, according to police.
The employees held Fredrick Thornton, 26, at gunpoint inside the Convenient Food Mart on Clark Avenue until police took him into custody, according to police reports and surveillance footage of the incident.
Thornton is charged with aggravated robbery. He is being held in the Cleveland City Jail on $100,000 bond after his first court appearance on Monday. ....

Schuler Park traffic concerns addressed in Flushing | News, Sports, Jobs

FLUSHING Village officials recently discussed the best way to limit vehicle traffic to some areas of Schuler Park amid concerns raised by Village Administrator Bryan Clark and Police Chief Paul Leek. During a council meeting held on April 8, Clark said that a cable that had once kept cars from crossing the dam was no longer in place and that a lot of people were driving their cars out to the back side of the pond. Clark said the ground was soft in that area and could get torn up by the traffic while Leek voiced his concern that a car would end up stuck in the soft ground or end up in the pond. A number of options were discussed about the best way to stop the traffic, with Councilman Tom Bober saying people would drive through the grass to bypass a barricade while Councilwoman Sandy Twarog and Mayor Angelo Vincenzo wanted to make sure the pond remained as accessible as possible to the elderly and families who wanted to fish there. A total of $3.3 million worth of winnings will be doled out to the owners of 22 winning lottery tickets.
The Pennsylvania Lottery announced that 22 winning tickets were sold for the Powerball with Power Play drawing on Wednesday, March 10.
“Each Powerball with Power Play ticket matched four of the five white balls drawn, 17-18-37-44-53, and the red Powerball 18 to win $150,000, less applicable withholding,” read the Pennsylvania Lottery press release. “Without the $1 Power Play option, each winning ticket would have been worth $50,000. The Power Play multiplier drawn was three.” ....
