Gainesville's NE area rabies alert has been rescinded, health officials say

The alert came in response to a stray cat that tested positive on May 14.
Residents should be advised that rabies is present in the wild animal population and that unvaccinated domestic animals are at risk.
The alert was centered over 3400 NE 53rd Ave. and had these streets as boundaries: Northeast 15th Street, Northeast 39th Avenue, Northeast Waldo Road and Northeast 73rd Avenue.
If a wild animal bites your pet, seek veterinary help immediately and call Alachua County Animal Services at 352-264-6880. Anyone bitten or scratched by wild or domestic animals should seek medical attention and report the injury to the Florida Department of Health in Alachua County at 352-334-7930. ....

High speeds on Waldo Road in Gainesville turn crossing four lanes into a treacherous journey.
Twenty-one pedestrians and 17 bicyclists were hit on the state road from January 2016 to March 2021, according to data from the Gainesville Police Department. Three additional pedestrians were hit in the parking lot of the Circle K at 20 NE Waldo Rd during the same time frame.
Eight pedestrians and bicyclists died in the crashes. Seven more suffered incapacitating injuries wounds that kept them from doing normal activities. ....
