Junk and unlicensed vehicles are a topic at board meeting In Gays Mills
GAYS MILLS - Junk and unlicensed vehicles kept in the Village of Gays Mills prompted a lengthy and at times impassioned discussion, during the monthly board meeting Monday night.
Village resident Bob Lomas was on hand to pursue his quest against unsightly and unlicensed vehicles.
Gays Mills Village President Harry Heisz said the village had sent out letters to residents with unlicensed vehicles on their properties and quite a few of them had been addressed by the owners. He said that others were attempting to get in touch with people who owned the cars to have them removed and others were still working on the situation.
Removing snow from hydrants is now an issue in village In Gays Mills
GAYS MILLS - The Gays Mills Village Board was a rather mundane affair last Monday night until the last item on the agenda–then it got contentious.
All it said on the agenda was ‘Snow Removal-Fire Hydrants.’ It was the topic that Gays Mills resident Bob Lomas had been waiting for.
“First of all, I came to receive my shovel,” Lomas said.
It was a reference to a comment made by Gays Mills Director of Public Works Jim Chellevold at the last board meeting.
Chellevold had contended that keeping the area around a fire hydrant shoveled was the responsibility of the property owner. He told the board then that he would deliver a snow shovel during the next snowstorm to the property owner who had taken issue with the idea that shoveling snow around a fire hydrant was the property owner’s responsibility.
Plans to build Dollar General discussed at village board meeting Gays Mills
GAYS MILLS - It appears that Gays Mills may be getting a Dollar General store in the near future.
A closely held secret about the intent of a group, called the Golden Warriors, to buy land in the Applewood Business Park and build a Dollar General was made public Monday at the Gays Mills Village Board meeting.
A representative of the group was present to answer questions about the design review of the building and a certified survey map. Both had been previously approved by the village’s plan commission. The proposed Dollar General store is to be located on a lot in the Applewood Business Park on Highway 131 and Royal Avenue.
