Revealed: Sneak peek of Northern Australia budget projects

The Federal Government has announced millions of dollars in funding for regional connectivity projects across Australia, which will be part of the upcoming budget to be revealed on Tuesday.
Making the announcement at Beef Australia in Rockhampton on Thursday, May 6, Minister for Northern Australia Keith Pitt said $190 million would go toward funding the Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility (NAIF) along corridors from Townsville to Mount Isa, Gladstone to Cairns, Darwin to Kununurra, and Darwin to the Beetaloo Basin.
Mr Pitt also announced $9 million would be focused on a pilot program on those corridors for the projects.

Two federal Labor politicians have made their party’s pitch to Central Queensland during a tour of the region, but there’s still no word on who will run for the key seat of Capricornia.
Queensland Senator and Shadow Minister for Northern Australia Murray Watt and member for Watson and Shadow Minister for Industrial Relations Tony Burke revealed Labor’s stance on mining and manufacturing when they visited the Keppel Brand factory at Yeppoon on April 20.
Speaking outside the crumbed sausage and dagwood dog manufacturer’s site, Mr Watt and Mr Burke made a jobs-centred pitch to make sure casual and labour hire employees got the same pay for the same work, to increase manufacturing, and keep exporting coal. ....

Dawson, Capricornia 'at risk' for net zero target job losses

The bleak outlook was laid out in the Institute of Public Affairs
Net Zero Jobs document.
The IPA is a conservative think-tank based in Melbourne.
The document uses data from the National Greenhouse Gas Inventory by Economic Sector report, along with industry employment data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics, to estimate how many jobs would be put at risk from a net zero emissions target.
It claimed that up to 653,600 jobs would be directly in the firing line from a net zero emissions target.
But Labor spokesman for Northern Australia Murray Watt has rubbished the claims as a blatant scare campaign from a fringe group . ....

LABOR has praised the Australian Government for ringing in the changes to its often-criticised $5 million federal loans scheme to get the money flowing towards more Northern Australia infrastructure projects sooner.
Minister for Resources, Water and Northern Australia Keith Pitt said his government was determined to transform the Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility (NAIF) into a more proactive investor for the benefit of Northern Australia.
Keith Pitt and Michelle Landry have responded to the findings of a Senate Inquiry by instituting recommended changes to the NAIF.
The changes will speed up the flow of funds to approved projects, give projects a greater range of debt-support options, and allow NAIF to make equity investments, Mr Pitt said. ....
