Major wind events in Coachella Valley far from blowing over
Another major wind event pummeled parts of the Coachella Valley on Wednesday, forcing the closures of North Indian Canyon Drive and Gene Autry Trail at the wash. The conditions add to the list of consecutive weeks hit with high-traveling winds.
This wind is something else today, said Indio resident, Joaquin Rosales.
Rosales stopped at the Pilot Travel Center in Palm Springs to fuel up and secure his load packed away in the back of his truck.
Those things are flying everywhere. I had to redo all my tie-downs and get it all ready because the wind is just getting worse as I’m going up the hill. I just got to be ready for it, said Rosales before heading up to 29 Palms. ....

SAN GORGONIO PASS AREA, CA Strong winds were forecast in the Banning Pass Wednesday, decreasing visibility and prompting the National Weather Service to issue an advisory set to remain in effect through Wednesday evening.
Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result, the NWS said in a statement. Areas of blowing dust and sand will locally reduce visibility.
The wind advisory, in effect through 10 p.m., covers the Banning Pass cities, along with areas in the northern Coachella Valley, including Whitewater, North Palm Springs and Desert Hot Springs. ....

Indian Canyon Drive and North Gene Autry Trail closed to traffic due to high winds, sand, and blowing dust
Palm Springs Police closed North Indian Canyon Drive and North Gene Autry Trail at their Whitewater Wash crossings to all traffic Wednesday morning due to blowing winds, sand, and dust.
The high winds lowered visibility along the major traffic arteries in and out of the city.
Vista Chino Road remained open to traffic.

For 35 years, McCormick s of Palm Springs, California, has been the Coachella Valley s nexus for collectible classic automobiles, and their brick-and-mortar dealership on North Indian Canyon Drive is a local landmark in the downtown area. Twice each year (in November and February during the desert s peak season), McCormick s holds a blockbuster car auction that brings in sellers, buyers, dealers, and the best cars in the area in addition to the normal inventory from the McCormick s dealership. This was our first time visiting the McCormick Auction, and based on what we experienced, we should ve visited this classic car honey hole a long time ago. This was McCormick s 70th such auction (see results below) and was held this February 26 to 28, 2021. ....
