Election 2021: City council candidates

In May s general election, one of the races voters will be making their voices heard on is who will be four members of the city council for Amarillo for the next term.
The new members of the city council will join the person elected to be Amarillo s mayor, a race which is also on May s election ballot. A preview for that specific race ran previously in print and is available on the Amarillo Globe-News website.

North Heights Linen Service targeted for May 1 opening

North Heights Linen Service project organizers are anticipating the operation will be open in May.
The progression of the laundry is going well, Puff Niegos, North Heights Linen Service president, noted in response to a Globe-News email inquiry. The building has been slowed by the weather, but we anticipate the equipment will be delivered the first to middle of March and our target date for opening is May 1.
Niegos noted the project s general contractor, S&B Services, has performed admirably in keeping the project on schedule amid varied weather conditions and indicated a plant manager has been hired and will begin work on March 2. Construction underway at 601 W. Amarillo Blvd. has been hailed by some as a potentially transformational project for the North Heights community. ....

A pair of Amarillo City Council members delivered a Neighborhood Planning Oversight Committee report during the council s virtual regular session, sharing insight regarding the plan s progress.
Per the city s website, the Neighborhood Planning initiative was created via a 2016 interlocal agreement between the city of Amarillo and Potter County to aid revitalization of some of the city s older neighborhoods through the development of area-specific plans. The city and neighborhoods collaborate to identify concerns, opportunities, a vision, goals and project priorities and the four participating neighborhoods are North Heights, Barrio, San Jacinto and Eastridge.

The construction underway at 601 W. Amarillo Blvd. is slated to yield the North Heights Linen Service, which has been hailed by some as a potentially transformational project for the North Heights community.
It s been a long time since we ve had something like this unfolding on this side of town, Hood said, noting he has been checking on the site periodically since the project s groundbreaking in March 2020.
