Council briefs members on Meenbog restoration progress - Highland Radio - Latest Donegal News and Sport


Restoration works have commenced at the site of the Meenbog Wind Farm bog slippage.
Donegal County Council says a phased approach has been adopted in relation to the restoration of areas affected by the peat slide in November of last year.
Donegal County Council was first notified by the Loughs Agency of the Meenbog peat slide near Barnesmore Gap on November 13th.
The council has confirmed that a number of enforcement actions are ongoing.
A updated assessment of peat stability of the windfarm has been undertaken.
The developer has undertaken the first phase of restoration under direction from Donegal County Council and the Northern Ireland Environment Agency. ....

A Tyrone GAA club has put down firm environmental roots in an effort to tackle climate change.
Last week, members of  Strabane Sigersons came together to plant 120 trees as part of the year-long GAA Green Club initiative.
The Sigersons are one of 45 pilot clubs taking part  in the initiative which is a collaboration  with Derry City & Strabane District Council, Donegal County Council, Sustainable NI, Ulster GAA and the Northern Ireland Environment Agency. ....

Slurrying should only be carried out if ground conditions are suitable, the UFU warns
Northern Irish farmers have been told to act with extra caution after the open slurry period commenced on 1 February.
The open period for spreading slurry started on Monday, and the Ulster Farmers’ Union (UFU) has warned farmers to ensure they are abiding by all guidelines.
After snow and heavy rainfall last week, many areas across the region will not be suitable for slurry spreading, the union said.
The introduction of the new Nutrients Action Programme (NAP) in 2020 brought with it various changes to spreading. ....
