Bangladesh Meteorological Department said on Tuesday the storm over northwest bay was likely to move further northwestwards and cross North Odisha-West Bengal coasts by Wednesday noon.
Maximum sustained wind speed within 64 kms of the cyclone’s centre is about 89 kph rising to 117 kph in gusts or squalls. Sea will remain high near the centre.
The Met Office asked the maritime ports to raise the warning signal to No. 3. ....

Cyclone Yaas in the Bay of Bengal has intensified into a severe cyclone late on Monday night and lay about 320 km South-South-East of Paradip; 430 km South-South-East of Balasore (both Odisha); 420 km South-South-East of Digha (West Bengal) and 470 km South-South-West of Khepupara (Bangladesh) this (Tuesday) morning.
Gale winds speed reaching 100-110 km/hr gusting to 120 km/hr prevailed over major parts of the Central Bay and would increase gradually becoming 125-135 km/hr gusting to 140 km/hr from this evening, an India Meteorological Department (IMD) update said. ....

NEW DELHI, May 25 (Xinhua) Authorities in India s eastern states of West Bengal and Odisha have begun to evacuate people from highly prone areas ahead of Cyclone Yaas, officials said on Tuesday.
The evacuations are likely to be completed before the arrival of Yaas, which is predicted to hit the West Bengal-Odisha coast on Wednesday noon.
According to officials, people were evacuated in the Chandipur area of Odisha s Balasore district by the local administration and marine police force. The government officials were seen making announcements on loudspeakers, urging people to move to safer locations ahead of the cyclone. ....
