The Board of Trustees of Northern Chautauqua Catholic School announces its 2021 Angel Campaign, the school’s annual year-long drive for donations that continues to grow each year, thanks to the generosity of the surrounding community.
This spring marks an important milestone for NCCS, said Principal Andrew Ludwig. “With the help of our extremely generous benefactors and through the determined efforts of our teachers, faculty, staff, parents, students and trustees, Northern Chautauqua Catholic School has been in session for every day, face-to-face instruction, for a school filled with children since Sept. 8, 2020,” said Ludwig. “In spite of pandemic restrictions, we have had a wonderful school year.” ....

Two COVID deaths noted; rise seen at BOCES | News, Sports, Jobs

Two more virus-related deaths, and 13 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, were reported Tuesday by the Chautauqua County Department of Health.
After going nearly a month without a new death associated with the virus, the county has recorded four since Friday. The ages break down as follows: four between the ages of 40 and 49; five between 50 and 59; 15 between 60 and 69; 30 between 70 and 79; 56 between 80 and 89; and 36 over the age of 90.
Of the new cases reported, from information collected Monday, seven have come from the Jamestown zip code, two in Mayville and one each in Dunkirk, Forestville, Bemus Point and Cassadaga.
To date there have been 8,757 confirmed cases, 8,419 recoveries and 146 virus-related deaths. There are currently 192 active cases, 12 people with COVID in the hospital, 500 in quarantine and a seven-day positivity rate of 2.3%. ....

MAYVILLE Chautauqua County Executive PJ Wendel and the COVID-19 Response Team recently announced the ninth week of COVID-19 Hero nominations for April 5-9.

Wallace Lee Starwalt
Wallace Lee Starwalt of Dunkirk, N.Y. passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, March 12 with his wife, daughter, and three granddaughters by his side.
Born on Dec. 1, 1929 in Coles County, Illinois, Wallace was the son of the late Frank and Clarissa (Carpenter) Starwalt. He had a younger brother, Philip Dean, and an unborn sibling who both perished in a tragic house fire in 1938 along with his mother.
He attended rural schools until the 8th grade, and then Hindsboro Elementary & High School, where he graduated as Salutatorian, Class of 1947. Wallace continued to keep in touch with his classmates via phone conversations, Facebook, and E-mails. Having attended his 70th HS reunion in Arcola, I.L. in July of 2017, he was looking forward to seeing cherished friends again at the 75th reunion, to be held in July of 2022. ....
