BISMARCK, N.D. – Summer is fast approaching, and parents may be wondering if children are ready to stay home alone and when it is safe for children to be without adult supervision.
Prevent Child Abuse North Dakota and the North Dakota Department of Human Services’ Children and Family Services Division have an informational brochure available online and in print called Home Alone: Is Your Child Ready? that provides guidance and answers some common questions about child supervision. Grain bin accident claims life of Stutsman County man


Stutsman County Sheriff Chad Kaiser confirms the death of a man near Gackle Tuesday.

The second death in a grain bin accident in three months has been reported in Stutsman County, according to Chad Kaiser, sheriff of the county.
The most recent fatality occurred Tuesday north of Gackle. Kaiser said the victim of the accident was a 70-year-old male but declined to release the man s identity Tuesday.
Kaiser said a commercial crew had been loading grain from bins onto trucks on a farmstead. They lost sight of the man before finding tools in one of the bins. They notified first responders at about 2:30 p.m. ....

A Community Building will provide recreational and social activities for the White Shield community when completed this fall.
Three schools on the Fort Berthold Reservation have been getting upgrades. White Shield, Mandaree and Twin Buttes have projects either being completed or initiated in 2021.
White Shield students began taking classes in their new school about 2-¢ years ago, but there’s still work being done.
The latest to be constructed is a sports complex that will replace an old track and field with a modern track and football field, while adding a baseball field, splashpad and hockey rink. White Shield, which hasn’t had a football team since the 1990s, will be organizing a team next fall, said Superintendent Wayne Fox. ....

Wear Blue Day is April 1 to show support for Child Abuse Prevention Month

BISMARCK – Prevent Child Abuse North Dakota and the North Dakota Department of Human Services are recognizing the importance of community-based support for all children and families during Child Abuse Prevention Month in April. The agencies encourage North Dakotans to join them in wearing blue on Thursday, April 1, to show support for children and families and to demonstrate their commitment to “Growing a Better Tomorrow for All Children, Together.”
“Too often, our society thinks of raising healthy children as solely a parent’s or caregiver’s responsibility alone,” said PCAND Executive Director Sandy Tibke. “We can build healthier, safer, and thriving communities if groups of people work together to collectively support children and families, so children can grow up to become successful, contributing adults.” ....
