On May 6, contributions to North Platte Giving Day totaled $371,000, a sharp increase over the day’s total a year ago which at that time was a record-setting amount.
The most donations by far went to the Community Build Playground fund for an elaborate playground in Centennial Park. They raised a total of $104,000, which included $14,000 in matching funds.
A building date will be announced soon, organizers said.  
Overall, Giving Day is in its sixth year. Organizers said 1,425 donors contributed to 71 organizations this year.
A year ago, the total donations on Giving Day was $265,036. Later donations boosted the total to $287,826.  When the day ended, the total donations amounted to $265,936; but later, more donations arrived, adding another $22,000. ....

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - The North Platte Community College Foundation and North Platte Public Schools are joining forces to put local students on the path to a higher education.
The organizations are teaming up for North Platte Giving Day in an effort to raise money for local students taking dual credit classes.
Donations to the North Platte Public Schools Foundation will be put toward scholarships for students taking dual credit classes at North Platte High School while donations to the NPCC Foundation will go toward dual credit scholarships for any high school student in Lincoln County. ....

Amid pandemic and holidays, North Platte food pantries work to keep helping those who need it


All North Platte food pantries struggle to keep food on their shelves, and this year has created more challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The need is as great or greater than I have seen in all my almost 30 years of doing this,” said Salvation Army Major Harold Poff. “After the first wave of COVID, it took a minute before the impact started to be felt. But now we are in the second wave and we never got over the first one in terms of economic impact on families here in this community.”
Poff said in a November interview that the shelves at the pantry were virtually picked clean. ....
