Grants to businesses and nonprofits negatively impacted by the pandemic, infrastructure for a new business park on Blue Clay Road and programs designed to get people back to work are all part of a framework unanimously adopted by the Board of Commissioners for New Hanover County to use its allocation of American Rescue Plan funds.

The county is expected to receive an estimated $45.4 million in federal funds, with half of it coming in May and the second half arriving a year later. Since we wanted these funds to be put to use quickly to speed our recovery from the economic impact of COVID-19, county staff developed a framework early so the mechanics and details will be ready to go once the first wave of funds is transferred. ....

NEW HANOVER CTY - WAVE Transit (Cape Fear Public Transportation Authority) is seeking input from the public on changes to certain bus routes that are planned to begin in August of 2021.
One change would eliminate the existing bus service from Pleasure Island to the rest of the County and replacing it with an on demand Microtransit service.
According to WAVE, In September 2020, a finalized proposal of a revised system network was presented to Wave Transit’s Board of Directors for review and consideration. On October 22, 2020, the revised network was approved as the framework for public transportation services offered by Wave Transit. WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - You can expect to see some new changes to Wave Transit routes and services starting this summer but before they happen, the transportation provider is looking for public input on the plans.
In January of 2020 both New Hanover County and the City of Wilmington agreed to work together to form a new interlocal agreement - after the New Hanover County Board of Commissioners voted to pull funding from Wave Transit. ....
