Gunmen in shooting spree in Imo – Governor's aide

Several gunshots were heard at the popular Ama Hausa area, a settlement of many northerners in Owerri, the Imo State capital.
The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Gender and Vulnerable Groups – Northern Affairs (Men), Suleiman Ibrahim, confirmed this through a telephone call in Owerri on Monday.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the incident took place shortly after the Okigwe zonal area command headquarters located at Ehime Mbano Local Government Area was attacked with about five police men reportedly killed.
Mr Suleiman said that anxiety gripped the residents when unknown gunmen attacked the large settlement at about 10 p.m. Monday, shooting indiscriminately. ....

Insecurity: Northerners not leaving Imo ― Govt

The Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to Governor Hope Uzodima of Imo State, on Gender Vulnerable Groups, Northern Affairs (Men), Hon. Sulaiman Ibrahim Sulaiman has dismissed the news in circulation to the effect that not less than 100 Northerners had left Imo State over insecurity.
Sulaiman described the publication made in one of the Northern newspapers on Tuesday 13th April 2021, as complete false information that lacks basic truth.
Sulaiman told
Tribune Online, on Thursday, that the rumour was totally false and had no basis as there was nothing like that at all.
He said that Northerners living in Imo State are at peace with their host communities irrespective of insecurity challenges in the state, adding that there were no plans for any northerner to leave Imo State. ....

Pandemonium, over the weekend, rocked Imo State as seven suya (roasted chicken or beef delicacy) sellers were killed by armed men.
It was gathered that the traders were killed in separate shootings in Orlu and Umuaka in the Njaba Local Government Area of the state.
Harisu Ishiaku, an eyewitness who spoke to newsmen, said that the suspected killers, who were dressed in military uniform and numbered more than seven, stormed the Afor Umuaka Market around 8.30 pm, accosted the victims in their shops and shot them.
According to him, four of the victims were in the age bracket of 30 to 45 and had lived in the area for many years without any trouble or attack from any member of the community. ....
