Banner program to honour area veterans coming to Melfort

The Melfort Legion banner program will aim to honour area veterans in time for Remembrance Day.
The Legion, along with Melfort Communities in Bloom, have partnered in an effort to fly commemorative banners throughout the city this fall.
President of the Legion Jim Graham told
northeastNOW the banners would begin on Highway 6 near the Canalta Hotel.
“They would run right down Saskatchewan Ave. to the other side of town and of course every light pole can have one,” Graham said.
The banners would be on display each fall for the next three years and then would be returned to the family or sponsor. ....

Artists, buskers, and the public bask in the Back Alley Tour in Melfort

The fifth edition of the Back Alley Tour in Melfort was a hot one.
Not only was the temperature well into the 30’s, but the number of participants and attendees was also high. Over 25 artists and vendors set up for the day in the alley behind the Northern Lights Gallery to showcase their creations while a handful of buskers performed.
Organizer Sandra Dancey told
northeastNOW artists and the public alike really needed a day of interaction.
“The last year and a half has been tough on everyone, so to have a relaxed event where people can just come together and socialize and to see everyone’s faces again has been great,” Dancey said. ....

More artists than ever for Back Alley Tour in Melfort

This year’s Back Alley Tour in Melfort will be the biggest ever.
There are over 30 artists and vendors that will be set-up behind the Northern Lights Gallery to showcase their work on Thursday from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Organizer and owner of the gallery Sandra Dancey told
northeastNOW artists are coming from as far away as Regina and Saskatoon.
“The timing was in our favour this year with it being just after things are re-opening,” Dancey said. “There are lots of people that are anxious to get out and interact so the artists are happy to be there and there are more people coming from further away as well just to see.” ....

Back Alley Tour returning this summer in Melfort, artists and volunteers wanted

Melfort’s Back Alley Tour that features local artists will return this summer.
Northern Lights Gallery owner Sandra Dancey started the event five years ago to allow artists to showcase their work while also being able to interact with fellow artists.
“It’s good for artists to see each other and exchange ideas,” Dancey said. “It is also a good way to demonstrate how much talent we have around here.”
The first event saw between 15 and 20 artists set up some of their work in the back alley behind the gallery that is located on Main Street.
“Numbers are slowly growing, and we are drawing from a little further out every year, which is nice because it brings new ideas and the artists really feed off that,” Dancey said. ....

Lakes art exhibition to celebrate nation's favourite walks

Helvellyn has now become Patricia’s favourite walk thanks to its fabulous views and she has created five different versions of the mountain in a variety of media including oils, handmade prints, and pen and wash.
Catbells, Scafell Pike, Buttermere and Coniston are the other Lakes walks which Patricia has captured on canvas along with Snowdon and Tryfan in Wales; Malham Cove in North Yorkshire; Dunstanburgh in Northumbria, and Mam Tor in the Peak District.

Patricia completed most of these walks herself but when lockdown scuppered plans to visit those furthest away from her Heysham home, she relied on friends and relatives to send photographs. ....
