Council approves request for Food Truck Rally

MINSTER – A summer celebration, a renewal of tennis courts and discussion to renew a levy were all part of the discussions at the Minster Council meeting Tuesday night.
Council approved a request by the Minster Historical Society to close a portion of 4th Street by the museum for their third annual Food Truck Rally to be held on June 6 from 3 to 10 p.m.
Council agreed to a request for bids to redo the east tennis courts by the school. Village Administrator Don Harrod said the estimated cost of $100,00 will be shared equally by the school district. He added they had done the same work on the courts west of the school two years ago. ....

Southlake extends COVID-19 business grant deadline through Sunday
The Business Relief Grant Program provides businesses with access to grants of up to $10,000.
Southlake is extending the application period for its Business Relief Grant Program until Sunday.(Southlake Safe)
Businesses in Southlake adversely impacted by COVID-19 have been granted extra time to apply to the city’s Business Relief Grant Program, with the city accepting applications through Sunday.
The program gives grants of up to $10,000 to assist businesses. So far, 103 applications have been received with $52,500 in grants approved, according to the city.
In addition to the extension, the city will also be accepting applications from privately owned franchises and businesses that opened no later than Jan. 1, 2020. ....

Algonquin receives $350,000 grant from state to give to businesses affected by COVID-19

The village of Algonquin was awarded $350,000 from the state to help businesses affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Grant amounts vary from $5,000 to $15,000 and will be proportional to the amount of businesses documented losses attributable to the COVID-19 public health emergency, according to Algonquin Village Board documents.
 
The village board unanimously approved an agreement Tuesday between the village and Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, the state agency working with local governments to distribute federal COVID-19 relief dollars to qualified businesses.
The village already has reviewed business applications to its Impacted Business Relief Grant Program and made a determination on their eligibility for funding, Assistant Village Manager Mike Kumbera said. ....

City of Lamar Enacting Safety Measures to Deal with Recent COVID Surge
The Prowers County Public Health and Environment department issued a press release on Thursday, October 22nd, stating a death occurred 10/21/2020 associated with COVID-19. The person was a resident of the nursing facility experiencing the outbreak in Lamar. The process of death investigation to determine whether this person died of COVID-19 or with COVID-19 is multi-tiered and goes through local, state and federal agencies.
Lamar Mayor, Kirk Crespin, announced on Tuesday, the 20th via facebook that the county is now at risk of going to Stage 3 restrictions unless the outbreak of the pandemic can be brought under control over the next two weeks. Although Crespin said he does not like the idea of mandated mask wearing measures, “We aren’t doing enough on our own,” he stated in light of the recent outbreak of 35 new cases and the death of a resident of Lamar Estates.
