Rec programs help individuals steward public land

A new Chaffee Rec Adopters program that begins July 13 is seeking volunteers to use a newly developed mobile app to inventory dispersed campsites at twice monthly meet-up and training events.
âAdoptersâ also can inventory sites on their own and take actions in areas important to them, once they receive a short training, a press release stated.
âVolunteers will directly contribute to healthier lands by documenting campsite locations and optionally picking up trash, fixing campsite containment fences and poorly built campfire rings as they provide more presence in our beautiful outdoors,â Dominique Naccarato, executive director of the Greater Arkansas River Nature Association, a program partner, said in the release. ....

Arkansas River rafting is big business for Southern Colorado

Arkansas River rafting outfitters are preparing for the “second surge” of business as the COVID pandemic loosens its grip on travelers and fully vaccinated boaters prepare to take to the great outdoors.
“This summer is going to be like the second surge,” said Rocky Mountain Outdoor Center Owner Brandon Slate. “Last summer was kind of the fearless people who came out and this year there is going to be another group that is vaccinated and feeling more comfortable, so now it is their turn to get out and vacation.”
