If this sturgeon had sneakers and slippery post moves, she could dominate the basketball world.
She already has the pro-style size at 6 feet, 10 inches and 240 pounds. But her age might be an issue. She’s probably older than 100, officials say.
The “river monster,” presumed to be female, was captured by a crew surveying the Detroit River near Grosse Ile in Michigan last week, the Alpena Fish and Wildlife Conservation Office wrote on Facebook. Not surprisingly, it’s one of the biggest lake sturgeon ever caught in the U.S., according to the office. ....

May 3 (UPI) Conservation officials in Michigan shared a photo of a once in a lifetime catch a lake sturgeon measuring 6 feet, 10 inches long.
The Alpena Fish and Wildlife Conservation Office said researchers on the Detroit River reeled in the 6-foot, 10-inch lake sturgeon last week and the fish weighed in at a staggering 240 pounds.

Biologists estimated the sturgeon, believed to be a female, is likely more than 100 years old and is one of the largest lake sturgeon on record in the United States.
We knew it was big in the water, but when we saw it on the deck of the boat, we were all like, yep, this is very large, Paige Wigren, a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service biologist who was on board the boat, told WWMT-TV. ....

A six-foot-ten-inch fish is back in the Detroit River after being caught last week. The Alpena Fish and Wildlife Conservation Office said on Facebook the sturgeon is believed to be a female who has been roaming the waters for over 100 years. The office noted the real-life river monster is one of the largest sturgeon ever recorded in the U.S. She was quickly released back into the water after being processed.
