The Ryedale scheme, in Ilford Lane, comprises 18 newly converted self-contained studios that will be let on two-year leases to support individuals experiencing homelessness. The Ryedale scheme has a counselling room where a psychotherapist will come in for a one-hour weekly session with the residents, some of whom are vulnerable women and people with substance abuse issues. ....

Old Mill Court - made up of 26 one and two-bedroomed properties - was unveiled yesterday (March 16), with council representatives on site to see the first project completed with delivery partner Engie. Conservative group leader Cllr Linda Huggett (Monkhams) said her members supported the proposed housing budget but feared the council was not building fast enough. She said: “We are concerned that the council is failing at the current time to deliver. I urge the new cabinet member to start delivering on your housing promises. “We received £20million in funding from the Greater London Authority to help with our housing shortage, which has still not been used and, if not used soon, will have to be returned.” In January, Redbridge Council failed the government’s “housing delivery test” after building 1,929 homes in the past three years, less than two thirds of the amount needed according to the London Plan. ....

The positions responsible for housing and crime have both been vacant for at least three months after one cabinet member publicly resigned and another quietly stepped down. The cabinet member in charge of civic pride - including the controversial Quiet Streets programme - has left his position for a newly created role, with another councillor stepping up to replace him. This means the number of councillors in the full cabinet has increased from nine to 10, with some councillors taking on new responsibilities in addition to their old work. ....
