A big Shakespearean production will not launch the Festival in 2021. Instead, a celebration of Black musical theatre directed and curated by singer and actor Marcus Nance will get the Festival underway on its 68th anniversary July 13.

Today Artistic Producer Arkady Spivak announced The Eternal Ego Festival. The new programming venture will showcase nine conceptual adaptations of multi-character works, in which all roles will be played by a single actor, and in two cases by two actors, using in-person, virtual or hybrid platforms. All the works share the theme of metamorphosis, which the festival’s artistic director, Antoni Cimolino, says is significant.
“As butterflies shedding their cocoons, we are poised to emerge from this pandemic,” says Cimolino in a press release today. ....
