Trib, Wyoming Press Association prepare to ask court to shoot down Mills, Bar Nunn legal notice ordinances

CASPER, Wyo. Attorney Bruce Moats, who represents the Casper Star-Tribune and the Wyoming Press Association, is preparing to file a petition in district court if the City of Mills and the Town of Bar Nunn’s councils don’t rescind ordinances exempting themselves from a requirement to publish legal notices in physical newspapers.
Moats on Thursday shared the petition he plans to file on behalf of the Casper Star-Tribune and the WPA that would ask the court to declare the Mills and Bar Nunn ordinances null and void since Wyoming law requires that municipalities publish legal notices in “a newspaper having general circulation in the community.” ....

Wyoming governor: Carbon capture technology can help coal

CASPER, Wyo. (AP) Climate change is a man-made problem, but the solution doesn’t have to come at the expense of fossil fuels, said Wyoming Gov. Mark Gordon.
Gordon, who spoke Friday at the Wyoming Press Association’s banquet in Casper, said developing carbon capture technology could be the solution.
“This is a climate crisis we really need to address,” said the first-term Republican governor. “But we can only address it if we are serious about what the solutions are.”
Wyoming is setting the stage for being part of the solution, Gordon said. ....

The University of Wyoming has received a $1.8 million gift from Ann Ramsay in honor of her late mother, Elizabeth McCabe, that will support 4-H and UW Extension employees located in Teton County. The Teton County 4-H Building in Jackson will be named in McCabe’s honor.
“My mother was totally devoted to the 4-H mission, and all the children and families who participated in it,” Ramsay says. ....

Newspaper earns Pacemaker honors during convention

The Green River Star received several Pacemaker accolades during the Wyoming Press Association’s annual convention over the weekend.
The Star competes in the Large Weeklies category, which encompasses weekly newspapers with a circulation of more than 2,500.
Publisher David Martin received two Pacemaker awards for editorial content, placing second in column writing for opinion-based column writing and second in obituary writing for an article featuring community leaders reflecting on former Green River City Councilman Carl Morck’s life.
