Colorado Business Committee for the Arts (CBCA) brought a new sense of accessibility, creativity and purpose to its annual Business for the Arts Awards.
In its 36th year, the statewide event was scheduled for March 9 to honor companies and individuals for their partnerships and engagement with the arts, with a (virtual) twist. The event was live-streamed from the People’s Building in the Aurora Cultural Arts District and featured some pre-recorded performances and videos of honorees.
As the state’s art industry grapples with the devastating effects of COVID-19, the event celebrates the resiliency of the arts community and the businesses that continued to lift the community. Not only were Colorado’s art and creative industries hit hard when the pandemic forced the closure of arts and cultural venues, but corporate giving and support to the arts declined significantly in 2020. ....

Colorado Business Committee for the Arts Celebrates Business for the Arts Awards


At the celebration which is virtual this year the CBCA will honor an impressive mix of winners, many of whom have been instrumental in helping the arts community make it through the pandemic, including RedLine Contemporary Art Center and Levitt Pavilion Denver, both nonprofits that advocated hard for arts, culture and venue funding and helped get money into the hands of struggling organizations.
Also in the mix are smaller companies like Jack s Solar Garden, which runs an Artist on the Farm program, and Pizzeria Locale, which has partnered with Access Gallery and Art From Ashes to display artworks and poetry on pizza boxes. The CBCA will also celebrate giants like Charles Schwab, which has been creating opportunities for artists at its corporate campus. ....

Denver’s biennial Month of Photography returns in force this week, ready to take on the very unusual challenges posed by the current pandemic.
The photo fest, always a mix of exhibits and lectures, is adding complementary outdoor and online offerings that allow folks at all leaving-the-house comfort levels to take part.
The lineup, presented with curatorial flair by the Colorado Photographic Arts Center, is sprawling and ambitious, showcasing the work of hundreds of photographers near and far, new and familiar.
