Chesapeake school district prepares its buses amidst fuel disruption and last updated 2021-05-12 16:52:40-04 CHESAPEAKE, Va. â With many drivers rushing out to fill up their gas tank, some may be wondering how it will affect businesses and even schools. News 3 talked with David Benson, Director of Transportation for Chesapeake City Public Schools, to see if they anticipate the Colonial Pipeline disruption will affect their bus routes. Benson says they are prepared. âWhen we reached out to our vendor, they assured us that they would make every effort to get additional loads sent to those locations,â said Benson, who was referring to the commercial sites located across Chesapeake where bus drivers fuel up the buses with diesel. âSo as far as diesel is concerned, we wouldnât have as much to worry about. We may wait in line a little bit longer, but we shouldnât have issues with our buses not being able to get fuel at this point.â ....

COVID-19 issues were at the forefront, and there was discussion of a phased return of students. The Virginia Beach City Public Schools system has announced that it will hold its Standards of Learning (SOL) testing in the classrooms starting as soon as Wednesday, January 6. The district sent an e-mail to parents on January 4, reminding them of the testing and letting them know how to arrange bus transportation for their child. The SOL testing will be for students in middle and high school. Parents can choose to have their children opt out; however, circumstances are different with high school students taking a course for credit. Parents are encouraged to check with their individual schools with any concerns. ....
