The
Warrnambool Racing Club hopes that a last minute
COVID green light will allow members and participants access to the iconic hill to watch next week’s
Grand Annual Steeplechase.
The splitting of the course into zone 1 and zone 2 means the general public (zone 2) will be able to make the annual Thursday pilgrimage to the hill at the back of the course to watch the Annual.
Each year, hundreds of patrons make the trek up the hill for the best vantage point for the marathon ....

The
36,000 attendees over the three-days, a return to near-normality and a guaranteed
$14 million cash-injection to the
City of Warrnambool.
Warrnambool Racing Club chief executive
Tom O’Connor said this morning that state government approval came through on Friday for up to
12,000 per day through the carnival.
Crowd-wise, last year’s carnival was a ghost meet because of
COVID and cost the club over
$600,000 and the city
$13.9 million in lost tourism
revenue.
WRC chief executive
Tom O’Connor said “there’s a fair bit of excitement now” after weeks of speculation regarding crowd capacity both from the club and fans who have held back booking accommodation until the increased crowd capacity was confirmed. ....

The Warrnambool Racing Club has allayed fears that the upcoming May carnival might be severely crowd-capped, saying it expected a State government green light for near-normal crowds.
There was speculation on social media yesterday that the carnival would be capped at 2500 for each of the three days, a year after the ghost carnival of 2020 and as significant crowds are returning to city tracks.
But racing minister Martin Pakula tweeted “watch this space” regarding a likely upgrade of the Tier 2 cap, saying the club’s application for more generous crowds, including up to 15,000 on Grand Annual day, was being reviewed. ....

A Thousand To Be Allowed On Course For Woodford Cup
The Warrnambool Racing Club has this morning opened their ticketing to the general public, after confirming they will be allowed to have a crowd of 1000 for the Mac’s Hotel Woodford Cup.
Operations Manager Kate Lindsey, said while there is still plenty of planning ahead, they are excited to have the boost as they head into a busy period for the club.
We re really excited to say we can have 1000 patrons back on course for the Woodford Cup, which is fantastic she said.
Obviously we are following the event framework and ensuring that we can execute the event in a CovidSafe way ....
