J.D. Mackey, 93, of Paris, Texas, passed away peacefully with his children at his side on July 22, 2021, going home to be with his beloved wife, Louise.
Funeral service will be held at Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 27, 2021, at 11 a.m., with graveside services to follow at Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. before the service. Due to renewed concerns about Covid spread, the family is asking all in attendance to please wear a mask.
J.D. was born on Oct. 10, 1927, in Sumner, Texas. He married Louise Waggoner beginning their 55 year journey of marriage together on June 20, 1959, in Paris, where they continued to reside. J.D. served our country for three years in the US Air Force, working and serving in both the US and Germany, before being honorably discharged in 1948.
Karen Scott Sawyer, age 78, passed away on Thursday, June 24, 2021, after a 12-year battle with Alzheimerâs.
She was born in Paris, Texas, during the brief period her father was commissioned to build airstrips at Camp Maxie. Raised in Tyler, Karen attended Tyler Public Schools, graduated from Lee High School and enrolled in Tyler Junior College.
It was the summer of 1962 when she met William âBillâ Sawyer Jr. at a local park. They worked two different shifts for the summer parks program for special needs children. Bill began to bring her lunch each day and by the end of the summer he proposed. They married on Aug. 25, 1962, and together attended Stephen F. Austin University. Two years later, Karen gave birth to their only child, Susan âStephanie.â
Marguerite Ann McFadden Edwards âMargaretâ, 92, of Paris departed this life on the Lordâs day, May 2, 2021, to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
A memorial service celebrating Margaretâs life will be held in the chapel of Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home on Saturday, May 8 at 3 p.m., followed by a graveside service at Evergreen Cemetery, officiated by David Phillips and Keith Splawn will present her eulogy. Family and friends will meet one hour before the memorial service.
Honoring their grandmother as pallbearers will be her grandsons, Keith and Chris Splawn, Joshua and Jonathan Phillips, Preston Farmer and great-grandsons, Seth and Todd Splawn.
