JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) - After getting the vaccine, you may think you are able to return to normal, but that is not the case.
Dr. Valencia Andrews-Pirtle says that you still need to continue to follow CDC guidelines such as social distancing, washing your hands, wear a mask, and avoid large crowds.
If you are exposed to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, you are still required to quarantine and get tested. ....

JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) - The African American community may be less likely to get the vaccine because of the mistrust in the American healthcare system, an area doctor said Thursday.
Dr. Valencia Andrews-Pirtle says she has listened to conversations from the Black community in Mississippi County and their mistrust is rooted in the disparities and unethical experiments.
She mentions the Tuskegee Experiment is one example that has caused mistrust in the healthcare system.
Although the doctor agrees with how the unethical actions have impacted the community’s trust in healthcare in the vaccine, she still advises that people should get the COVID-19 vaccine. ....

During Blytheville Mayor James Sanders’ weekly COVID-19 Zoom meeting Wednesday, Dr. Valencia Andrews-Pirtle reported that staff of the Blytheville School District will receive the vaccine on Jan. 27 and staff of the Gosnell School District will be vaccinated on Jan. 28 at their respective high schools.
Delta Drug of Manila is coordinating with the local schools for the vaccine clinics.
Mayor Sanders said he is glad to see the vaccine clinics at the schools to protect students and staff.
Pirtle noted those over 70 may now contact Rose Pharmacy by phone or fax to get on the list for the vaccine. Those shots will be given at Wagner Clinic in Blytheville. ....

MISSISSIPPI COUNTY, Ark. (KAIT) - Dr. Valencia Andrews-Pirtle received the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccination Thursday once it came in.
She says that the flu shot hurts significantly worse than this one.
“The vaccination did not hurt much. I barely felt it,” said Dr. Andrews-Pirtle.
Dr. Andrews-Pirtle wanted to record getting her shot because she says she can finally come to work without constantly being worried after so long. ....
