Slow Food USA: Springfield library seed bank in pilot sharing program

The seed bank at Lincoln Library is about to get a national following, thanks to Slow Food Springfield’s selection in a pilot seed sharing program.
The local chapter is one of six chosen by Slow Food USA to kick off its new Share a Seed program that is asking gardeners throughout the country to “share their spares.”
“If you’ve ever bought a packet of seeds, you open it up and there’s like 50 seeds. But who is growing 50 tomato plants?” Slow Food Springfield board president Alana Reynolds said.
“Sharing keeps the seeds from sitting around in a tin unused. And we’ve seen a growing interest in people wanting to grow their own, at the same time there’s been some seed shortages. ....
