The nonprofit faith-driven organization offers an eight-week intensive training program through its Youth Leadership Academy that focuses on eradicating human trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation of children. The program seeks to educate participants on how to recognize the signs of commercial exploitation, how to respond if you suspect that someone is being exploited, and how to be an effective advocate for ending human trafficking within their communities. ....
A growing number of residents have checked themselves into Fort Bend County hospitals in recent weeks and been diagnosed with the Delta variant of COVID-19, setting off concern among physicians that this could be the beginning of another wave of coronavirus, according to health experts. But unlike previous waves during the pandemic, this rise has been limited almost exclusively to people who have declined to receive the coronavirus vaccine, said Rita Obey, communications manager for Fort Bend County Health and Human Services. âAs with the rest of the Houston region, Fort Bend County has seen a rise in cases,â Obey said. âThe vast majority of these cases have been unvaccinated residents. Out of the 367,000-plus Fort Bend County residents who have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, four people who were 70-plus years of age and had comorbidities died from COVID-19.â ....
Even approaching the newly-renovated Fort Bend Museum in Richmond, itâs easy for one to believe theyâre about to enter some place in one of the worldâs centers of culture â a New York, a Paris, a Tokyo. A comforting white exterior and glass doors greet visitors on their approach, and the entry is filled with local art and historical trinkets and T-shirts depicting Fort Bend County history. âThis used to be basically a big brick box,â said Claire Rogers, the executive director of the Fort Bend History Association, which oversees the museum. The museum, 550 Houston St. in Richmond, reopened to the public on July 17 after being closed about six months for $2 million in renovations, according to Fort Bend History Association, which runs the museum. ....

Fort Bend ISD has launched a fascinating new initiative in local governance, asking students, parents and staff how it should spend some $94.7 million in federal funding it received through the American Rescue Plan. Federal guidelines stipulate districts must use 20 percent of the funding on measures to address instructional time lost during the pandemic, but otherwise gives districts broad leeway in how to best use the money. Rules also require districts to involve the public in deciding how to use the funds, such as soliciting opinions through surveys and public meetings, which means other districts in Fort Bend County will likely follow FBISDâs lead in coming weeks. ....
