The 20-by-20-inch quilts shown in Sisters were only a portion of the 450 quilts entered in the annual Cherrywood Fabrics Challenge. Looking remarkably like the real Bob Ross, SOQS President Jeff Omodt was on hand, complete with curly brown wig and beard. He greeted visitors, posed for photos, and explained the process behind the display. This was the fifth year Cherrywood sent their challenge quilt exhibit to Sisters. It started with “Wicked,” using only Day-Glo green and black, followed by “Lion King” in three shades ....

Packing a total of 265 backpacks with stationery and back-to-school essentials, the donations have assisted struggling families across the region. Executive officer of the not-for-profit organisation Sue Tasker said while the last 12 months meant a greater need for assistance, she was always blown away by the local community s generosity. The kindness of others never ceases to amaze me - it s sad that there is a need, but on the upside the Bundaberg community always rallies together and have really made a difference for a lot of kids starting back at school, Ms Tasker said. ....

At last Wednesday’s City Council meeting, the City awarded a public improvement contract to J. P. Prinz Co. LLC in the amount not to exceed $713,317, the lowest of five bids received for the construction of a new Well 4, Phase B. Phase A, just completed, was the drilling of the well by Abbas Drilling on land at the east end of the Creekside Campground. While Phase A was underway, the design for the well house and all the equipment (Phase B) was being finalized. The well depth ended up being 293 feet.
