Pennsylvania hasn t increased its minimum wage in 15 years. It stands at $7.25 an hour, which is lower than neighboring states. Democrats on Friday issued a new call to raise the minimum wage. A minimum wage increase is desperately needed by the people of Pennsylvania, Gov. Tom Wolf said.Wolf and Democrats are backing a bill that hikes the minimum wage to $12 an hour and has a pathway to move that rate to $15 an hour. The current minimum wage in our commonwealth is bad for workers. It s bad for business. It s bad for our economy, Wolf said.The Republican chairwoman for the Senate Labor & Industry Committee said there aren t any current plans to advance the bill. She s concerned $12 an hour is too high of a hike for some businesses to absorb.Sue Pera owns Cornerstone Coffeehouse in Camp Hill and said a drastic hike in the minimum wage could hurt businesses, though she thinks a gradual hike to $15 might be acceptable.
