Great Western Hospital to expand

The land
A growth in demand for hospital care from both North Wiltshire and Swindon patients has led to extension plans at the Great Western Hospital.
The hospital s NHS Foundation Trust has purchased 5.5 hectares of land from housing developers Persimmon Homes and Redrow Thames Valley. The Trust had been able to purchase the land following a successful bid for £30million of government funding in 2018.
The purchase of the land has been managed as part of the Trust’s ‘Way Forward Programme’, under which a series of hospital improvement projects are being taken forward. These projects will enable the relocation of non-acute services to the expansion land, which will facilitate Urgent and Emergency Care (U&EC) capacity expansion in the main hospital, and will include the development of an Integrated Rehabilitation Facility (IRF). ....

IW Foundation announces grant award recipients and dates for applications

THE Isle of Wight Foundation has announced the latest recipients of its grant awards for 2020.
The Foundation, made up of the partners in Highways PFI company Island Roads, has announced Chillerton and Gatcombe Community Association, the Newport-based Way Forward Programme, and Whippingham Community Association will share over £12,600 between them.
The money will be used by each organisation to make their buildings more accessible.
Each year, the foundation comprising Ringway Island Roads, Meridiam, VINCI UK Foundation and VINCI Concessions supports projects working to tackle social exclusion on the Island. ....

Nigel Phillips, treasurer of Chillerton and Gatcombe Community Association, said: We are delighted.
The village hall is a very important part of the community but in order to keep it accessible for all we do need to keep it in a good condition.
This donation will help up to repoint the east and west walls of the hall and also install an outside tap that will help us maintain our grounds.
The Way Forward Programme, which provides a day centre, community support, training, and employment for Islanders with disabilities and autism, will spend £4,125 on a new accessible kitchen.
Tracey Hill, Programme Lead for The Way Forward Programme, said: We are absolutely thrilled that, once again, the Isle of Wight Foundation has provided us with much-needed funding. ....

A phantasmagorical drive-through Christmas carol singing extravaganza is coming to Newport next week.
The Way Forward Programme in Newport is hosting the event outside its building on Daish Way.
Staff say the coronavirus pandemic has affected their Christmas preparations - and has meant the centre s users have had to adapt.
Instead of visiting supermarkets and other places across the Island, this year members are having to bring their audience to them.
