Coastside seniors begin to see light after very dark year


After Ho Wing Chui got his second vaccination at the San Mateo County Event Center earlier this month, he felt different. The 74-year-old said he felt free.
In early March, Chui, who lives in the Half Moon Bay senior complex on Main Street, joined the growing ranks of people who can resume some normal activities, like gathering with friends and family. These activities remain largely discouraged for all except those fully vaccinated.
Under the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidance, fully vaccinated people can gather indoors without a mask with other vaccinated people or with people from one other unvaccinated household, barring any serious risk to COVID-19. ....

Nursing home residents get vaccinated


IRON RANGE - The number of long-term care and assisted living residents who have been vaccinated against COVID-19 is on the rise, with local facilities reporting that the majority have received the shot.
That’s good news for people residing in those locations, where populations have been hit hard with coronavirus outbreaks and deaths.
In Hibbing, Shane Roche, administrator of Guardian Angels Health and Rehab Center, said last week that 95 percent of the 60 residents here have received the Moderna vaccine. Just under 70% of the staff members have been vaccinated.
Marc Halpert, COO of Monarch Healthcare Management, which houses more than oversees long-term care and assisted living facilities across the state, including people in Virginia (75), Eveleth (55), Grand Rapids (104), Duluth and Superior, Wis., said more than 75% of residents and 64% of staff members have been vaccinated in those locations. ....

Airports Council International (ACI) World, the trade association of the world’s airports, has published new guidance for airports to help them prepare for restart and recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic and its impact on their operations.
As the trajectory of recovery has been affected by new variants of Covid-19 and the new restrictions introduced by governments in response, the second edition of ACI World’s Aviation Operations during Covid-19 – Business Restart and Recovery, provides updated best practice examples and guidance for both initial restart and longer-term recovery.
ACI has not only updated its guidance on the practical and efficient health and operational measures that can be introduced to support safe travel, but also included new information on the provision of Covid-19 testing facilities at airports and supporting the distribution of vaccines. ....

Munich Re Affirms FY21 Guidance
MUNICH (dpa-AFX) - Munich Re said, as part of its Ambition 2025, the company has set a target return of 12-14% on invested capital in 2025. Earnings per share are expected to increase annually by at least 5% on average by 2025. The dividend per share is projected to rise by at least 5% on average.
For 2021, Munich Re estimates that the Group s gross premiums written will total around 55 billion euros. The company expects to achieve a consolidated result of around 2.8 billion euros. For 2021, the company predicts economic earnings of over 2.8 billion euros.
The Group is proposing that the Annual General Meeting approve a dividend of 9.80 euros per share, the same as last year. ....

Wednesday marks one year since first COVID-19 cases in mid-Missouri


MID-MISSOURI — Wednesday marks one year since health officials reported the first COVID-19 cases in Boone County and Cole County. 
On March 17, 2020, COVID-19 had officially reached mid-Missouri. One year later, over 23% of Boone County residents and over 21% of Cole County residents have initiated vaccination, according to Missouri s COVID-19 dashboard. 
To Ashton Day with the Columbia/ Boone County Department of Public Health & Human Services, Wednesday is a day to remember those who lost their lives to COVID-19 in the county. 
Recognizing that there is a lot of hurt in our community from those losses, Day said. We take that very seriously.  
As of Wednesday morning, 83 Boone County residents and 63 Cole County residents have died because of COVID-19 related causes.  ....
