JDS Basavaraj Horatti backed by BJP elected Karnataka Council chairperson amid Cong protest News Network February 9, 2021 Bengaluru, Feb 9: JD(S) MLC Basavaraj Horatti was elected as the new Chairperson of the Karnataka Legislative Council on Tuesday defeating Congress candidate. The election took place in the midst of Congress leaders staging a protest in the Well of the House, against the passing of the Prevention of Cow Slaughter Bill. Congress argued that the Bill was passed in an undemocratic manner overlooking their demand for the division of votes. Notwithstanding their protest, the election was announced. Even though Congress had fielded Naseer Ahmed, the party leaders refused to take part in the election process. As a result, the House declared Horatti as unanimously elected. ....

Yediyurappa has done a cabinet reshuffle for the third time in the last five days and is still struggling to douse disgruntlement among his partymen since he inducted seven new ministers in his cabinet nine days ago. On January 21, he carried out his first reshuffle. Less than 24 hours of allocating portfolios and effecting minor reshuffle to his cabinet on January 21 again on January 22, he reallocated portfolios to a few ministers. On January 25, in less than five days Sudhakar got back his Medical Education portfolio that was taken from him and allocated to J. C. Madhuswamy, who had been advocating that both portfolios – Medical Education and Health should remain with one minister to tackle the Covid -19 pandemic. ....
Karnataka CM effects cabinet reshuffle twice on a single day to mollify those upset India Published: Monday, January 25, 2021, 22:33 [IST] Bengaluru, Jan 25: Aimed at mollifying his Cabinet colleagues, Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa on Monday effected a rejig, twice on a single day, by reallocating portfolios to some upset ministers. Earlier in the day, Yediyurappa had carried out a minor reshuffle, the third in less than a week, by reallocating portfolios to three ministers- J C Madhuswamy, Anand Singh and K Sudhakar. With Minister Madhuswamy, who was in the afternoon assigned Tourism, Ecology and Environment departments, expressing his displeasure and amid reports that he may resign, the Chief Minister exchanged his portfolio with Minor Irrigation Minister C P Yogeeshwara by late evening, effecting another round of rejig. ....

Family Welfare minister, K Sudhakar got the Medical Education ministry back in his fold. He was at the helm of this ministry earlier also before it was given to JC Madhuswamy. JC Madhuswamy was reallocated Tourism, Ecology and Environment departments. Anand Singh has been alloted to Infrastructure Development and Haj and Wakf department. He previously held forest portfolio. This is the third reshuffle of the Cabinet in the last one week. ....

Ending a long wait, Yediyurappa expanded his 17-month old cabinet on January 13, by inducting seven ministers and also dropped H Nagesh who was holding the Excise portfolio, but the exercise led to resentment with several aspirants expressing reservations over not being included in the ministry. Against the sanctioned strength of 34, the Yediyurappa cabinet now has 33 members. The Forest Department has been taken back from Anand Singh, who has now been given the Tourism portfolio in addition to Environment and Ecology. The newly inducted Aravind Limbavali has been allotted the Forest Department. ....
