District authorities seek support from landowners
The East Godavari district authorities have set a target to bring 1 lakh tenant farmers under the Crop Cultivator Rights Cards (CCRC) system before the commencement of the kharif season, enabling the latter to claim all the benefits from the State and Central governments.
Awareness drive
Anaparthy MLA S. Suryanarayana Reddy and East Godavari Collector D. Muralidhar Reddy launched a three-week awareness campaign on the CCRC system at Karakuduru village in Pedapudi Mandal on Friday. They appealed to the landowners to extend their support for the tenant farmers to obtain the CCRCs. ....

Cumbria reacts to Government scheme to pay older farmers to retire

A GOVERNMENT scheme that would see older farmers paid to retire has provoked an angry response from the Cumbrian farming industry.
The scheme, designed to bring new blood into the trade, would see the average farmer receive a lump sum payment of £50,000 - capped at £100,000 for farmers with most land.
It is part of a massive overhaul of farm grants, incentivising farmers to protect the environment.
Older farmers are often most resistant to new green methods, and Environment Secretary George Eustice wants them to move on.
But Alistair Mackintosh, National Farmers Union Cumbrian council delegate and west Cumbrian farmer, said he found the whole thing patronising . To suggest it needs the young generation to farm shows a complete lack of understanding by the government.I feel insulted that they say the next generation can manage the challenges as we move forward. As a farmer I have had to deal with quotas, BSE, Foot and Mouth, changes to the CAP reform ....

Landlords and tenants urged to take note of annual DEFRA report when setting rent levels for new agreements and at review
Haymaking in Borrowdale, Cumbria.
IN any landlord tenant relationship within the farming world, one of the most sensitive issues to deal with is the level of rent payable for the holding, writes George Dunn, CEO of The Tenant Farmers Association. Landlords’ agents often decry the basis of rent reviews under the Agricultural Holdings Act 1986 (AHA) as being out of touch with modernity whilst many farm tenants view the way in which rents under Farm Business Tenancies (FBTs) are reviewed as being out of touch with reality. ....

9 May 2021 |
Sky lanterns start wildfires and property fires, kill or injure livestock, as well as pollute the countryside
The NFU has written to the government as part of a coalition of 18 organisations to explain how its approach to sky lanterns is now significantly out of date .
