Horace Greeley is the only person with Chautauqua County roots ever to run for president of the United States.
His family lived in Clymer, or more succinctly, Wayne Township, Pa., on a road south of Clymer that delineates New York from Pennsylvania the state line road. Greeley’s parents, Zac and Mary Woodburn Greeley, were among Clymer’s earliest residents. They moved to the State Line Road in 1826 from Vermont, well before one could easily get from Buffalo. ....

Erie School District expects to get $28 million in new COVID-19 relief bill


The newly passed federal COVID-19 relief bill provides about four times as much funding for K-12 schools as did the first coronavirus relief bill that Congress passed in March.
The increase in funding for schools means a big boost for the Erie School District, which is continuing its financial recovery, and other school districts in the region.
The Erie School District, the largest in northwestern Pennsylvania with about 11,000 students and a budget of $210 million, will receive $27,756,501 in aid under the new $900 billion relief legislation, according to preliminary estimates that Republican state senators in Harrisburg received this week.
The Erie School District received $6,761,026 in aid through the previous legislation, the $2.2 trillion Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act. ....

Snow inch counts for Christmas Day storm in Erie, Crawford counties


Expect snow in Erie County and across some other areas of Pennsylvania, in some cases through Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.
The National Weather Service in Cleveland has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Erie County through 1 p.m. Saturday. Up to 22 inches of snow is expected.
The snow is expected to begin in earnest after 4 p.m. Thursday for much of the county. But just how much snow will we get? 
Here are the projected snow totals in Erie County, Pa.
Albion: New snow accumulation of 5 to 9 inches is possible tonight. Christmas Day snow showers could bring an accumulation of 2 to 4 inches, and Friday night showers could bring another 2 to 4 inches. ....

Nor'easter will bring more snow south of Erie County on Wednesday


One inch to 3 inches of snow is likely across most of Erie County including Edinboro, Wattsburg and Corry, according to the National Weather Service office in Cleveland.
However, the weather service in Cleveland has issued a winter weather advisory for Crawford County from 10 a.m. Wednesday through 4 a.m. Thursday. Three inches to 5 inches of snow is expected.
A winter weather advisory from the weather service in State College for Warren and McKean counties calls for 3 inches to 6 inches of snow, most of it late Wednesday. The advisory is in effect from noon Wednesday until 7 a.m. Thursday. 
The weather service in Pittsburgh calls for 3 inches to 5 inches of snow in an advisory area that includes Venango and Mercer counties. The advisory runs from 7 a.m. Wednesday until 7 a.m. Thursday. In Forest County, 5 inches to 7 inches of snow is likely. ....
