Children will suffer if state walks away from Sunrise

The Commonwealth of Kentucky had existed only 77 years when Sunrise Childrenâs Services was organized. A group of ladies at Walnut Street Baptist Church in Louisville recognized a need to care for orphaned children living on the streets. Their focus was on providing care for children in crisis and Sunrise Childrenâs Services was born.
Since 1869, Sunriseâs mission has remained the same. For more than 150 years, this agency of the Kentucky Baptist Convention has cared for Kentuckyâs children and families through foster care, orphan care, and residential and therapeutic services.
In the late 1970s, Sunrise was approached by the state of Kentucky and asked to help with the increasing number of children in the stateâs custody. The request aligned with Sunriseâs mission and they were eager to help. Since then, the number of children in the stateâs custody has steadily risen and Sunrise has been a steady partner. Susan E. “Sue” (Thompson) Grossman, 67, wife of Robert H. “Bob” Grossman, Jersey Shore, passed away at home on Saturday, May 8, 2021.
Born in Akron, Ohio, on Dec. 19, 1953 she was the daughter of the late J. Frank Thompson and Elizabeth “Betty” J. (Bloom) Thompson of Jersey Shore.
Bob and Sue were wed on Sept. 23, 1972 and shared over 48 years of marriage together.
She was a member of Walnut Street Baptist Church, Avis.
Sue graduated from Lock Haven University with a Bachelor’s degree in elementary education and special education along with a Master’s degree in literature.
She was formerly employed by Keystone Central School District and Jersey Shore School District as a special education teacher. While employed with the Jersey Shore School District, she also taught 5th grade in the Avis and Nippenose Elementary schools. ....

JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) - The National Day of Prayer was Thursday, and dozens came out to worship and pray at Walnut Street Baptist Church in Jonesboro.
Several came out to pray for the community, churches, and law enforcement officials.
Several churches throughout the community were represented.
People were urged to live a more holy life by depending on prayer and steering away from acting out in hate. ....

JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) - Despite extremely low temperatures, people were sledding down the hills at Walnut Street Baptist Church.
People brought real sleds and make-shift sleds to glide down the hills, all while spending time with friends and loved ones.
“It’s been nice to do a little sledding and have a little fun with my grandson,” said Marshall Poole, who likes to come to the church whenever it snows.
Poole was surprised the air was warmer than what he expected. ....
