Turkish authorities should immediately put a stop to the criminal investigation opened into women’s rights activists for shouting slogans at a March 8, 2021 International Women’s Day assembly in central Istanbul and ensure that judicial control measures imposed on them are removed, Human Rights Watch said today. ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (AA): Pakistan is establishing interfaith harmony councils at the local, provincial and national level to promote dialogue and resolve sectarian conflicts, Maulana Tahir Ashrafi, special representative of the prime minister on religious harmony, has revealed.
In an exclusive interview with Anadolu Agency, Ashrafi, who is also the chairman of Pakistan Ulema Council, a top body of religious scholars, said Prime Minister Imran Khan is striving for unity among Muslim countries.
Referring to the recent killing of 11 innocent people in Balochistan, the southwestern province of Pakistan, the globally recognized cleric said terror groups such as Daesh/ISIS, the Pakistani Taliban, Al-Qaeda, and their affiliated organizations are destabilizing Muslim countries and ....

Turkey has condemned a “racist threat message,” in north-eastern Greece written on an elevator of a flat building that is the residence of Ahmet Mete, the Mufti of Xanthi in Western Thrace, Greece.
The xenophobic graffiti reading, ‘Good Turk is a Dead Turk’ was penned on the evening of November 27, in the mirror of the elevator in the flat where Mufti Mete lives.
“This incident once again revealed the intolerance of racist and extremist groups in Greece towards the existence of the Turkish Minority in Western Thrace and their representatives,” said Turkey’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman, Hami Aksoy. ....

(Istanbul) – Turkey’s broadcasting watchdog, the Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK), is imposing punitive and disproportionate sanctions against independent television and radio channels that broadcast commentary and news coverage critical of the Turkish government, Human Rights Watch said today.
In a context in which the vast majority of television news outlets are pro-government, the radio and television watchdog has contributed to the deepening censorship of independent and critical broadcasting by imposing five-day broadcasting bans on two TV stations and heavy fines on others. ....
