(Image: Shutterstock) Landis Michael Landis, assistant professor of biology in Arts & Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis along with Felipe Zapata from the University of California, Los Angeles, Nina Rønsted from the National Tropical Botanical Garden and Warren Wagner from the Smithsonian Natural History Museum received a total of $1.12 million from the National Science Foundation for a project titled “Modeling the Origin and Evolution of Hawaiian Plants.” ....
Landis Michael Landis, assistant professor of biology in Arts & Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis – along with Felipe Zapata from the University of California, Los Angeles, Nina Rønsted from the National Tropical Botanical Garden and Warren Wagner from the Smithsonian Natural History Museum – received a total of $1.12 million from the National Science Foundation for a project titled “Modeling the Origin and Evolution of Hawaiian Plants.” The research team will focus on 12 understudied plant groups – including Kadua, Wikstroemia and Psychotria – using new sequencing and modeling techniques to gain a broader idea of how Hawaiian plant diversity originated. The project includes conservation and educational components as well, including collecting new wild specimens for the National Tropical Botanical Garden herbarium. ....
