DUBUQUE, Iowa (KCRG) - William Kowalewski has spent much of his time at the University of Dubuque as a Resident Assistant, but he said the amount of waste he saw thrown out during move-out day is something that has always stuck with him.
”I have seen anything from TVs, to just hangers, to regular plain old trash,” Kowalewski said.
That, in part, prompted staff at UD to think of ways they could reduce waste, not only on their campus but on campuses county-wide. That’s why UD is now partnering with the Dubuque Metropolitan Area Solid Waste Agency to fund a new full-time position whose job will be precisely that. ....

Three new members have joined the Grand View University Board of Trustees: Rev. Amy Current, Rowena Crosbie and Pat Wood.
Rev. Amy Current is a pastor in The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) and has served the Southeastern Iowa Synod in the office of bishop since 2020. She is a graduate of Concordia College, Moorhead, MN (B.A.) and Wartburg Theological Seminary (M.Div.).
Prior to her role as bishop, Current served as vice president for admissions and student services at Wartburg Theological Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa. She also served in various leadership roles at Wartburg including director for financial aid and stewardship formation, director for public communications, and interim director of the Center for Youth Ministries. Born and raised in North Dakota, Amy was honored to serve as pastor of Maple Sheyenne Lutheran Church in Harwood, N.D., as pastor of Golden Ridge Lutheran Church, Fargo, N.D., and Congregational Lutheran United Chur ....

MAQUOKETA â On Sunday, First Lutheran Church in Maquoketa will celebrate retiring pastor Judy Heinrich. Heinrich will retire as Word and Sacrament Minister in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America Dec. 31, the church said.
Bishop Amy Current of the ELCA Southeastern Iowa Synod will preach during the 9 a.m. worship service on KMAQ radio and Facebook Live Sunday and will lead the Sending rite at the end of the service.
The public is invited to participate in the worship service and the 10 a.m. program on KMAQ and Facebook Live on the congregationâs Facebook group page, as well as the retirement and appreciation car parade,beginning at 10:30 a.m. in the church parking lot. ....
