Palm Desert says arena could add $5 million in public safety costs

However, County Supervisor V. Manuel Pérez on Monday said he was requesting that any decision be postponed to May 5 to allow Palm Desert to review a traffic study and other documents.
Pérez participated in a virtual town hall meeting Monday afternoon that was hosted by Palm Desert’s mayor. It included representatives of Oak View Group, the Los Angeles-based sports and entertainment company that wants to build the arena, who answered questions and addressed concerns of residents.
“I am 100% fully behind this project,” Pérez said. While
the arena is proposed to be built on land in the unincorporated area of Thousand Palms — and thus falls under the purview of county planners

Day 2 of major wind event wreaks havoc on Coachella Valley

Day 2 of major wind event wreaks havoc on Coachella Valley
A major wind event extended into its second day, causing widespread damages across the Coachella Valley.
On 38th Avenue between Varner Road and Washington Street, the base of a giant power pole snapped causing it to lean into the roadway. Crews observed the damage and had to close off the road to traffic.
On Indio Boulevard between Fargo and Smurr Streets one tree toppled over after the wind uprooted it.
"Typically there’s always trees like this," said landscaper, Carlos Luna.
Luna was working near the tree, and wasn't too surprised. He said after major wind events, they are used to having a more extensive clean-up.

Two weather warning sirens are not operating

With severe weather season rapidly approaching, Tallassee residents on the west side of the city and in the Carrville community should be aware that the severe weather sirens in those areas are not operating at this time.
"We have one weather siren that was hit by lightning, and we did an insurance claim on it," Mayor John Hammock said. "We have another siren that is not working that lightning did not hit it. It's just broken."
The broken siren is located in far west Tallassee near the intersection of AL Hwy 14 and AL Hwy 229. The siren that was hit by lightning and is being repaired is located near the intersection of AL Hwy 14 and Macedonia Road near the Funtastic Fort.
