Exclusive: Newmarch House, where NSW s deadliest COVID-19 cluster killed 17 elderly residents, is among the aged care homes which have been busted breaking coronavirus rules during the pandemic.
Government inspectors uncovered ongoing COVID-19 breaches in 15 nursing homes - nine in NSW, four in Victoria and two in Queensland - despite the deaths of 685 Australians in aged care from the coronavirus last year.
The Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission (ACQSC) cut short the accreditation of Newmarch House in Kingswood until May 14 this year, after it failed an unannounced audit in July.
Deficits were found in staff infection control practices and cleaning of equipment including during the COVID-19 outbreak, the audit report states. ....

Exclusive: Aged care homes have been busted breaking COVID-19 rules months after the pandemic killed hundreds of elderly residents.
Government inspectors uncovered ongoing COVID-19 breaches in 15 nursing homes - nine in NSW, four in Victoria and two in Queensland - despite the deaths of 685 Australians in aged care last year.

Born in Liverpool, England, on June 1, 1949, John joined the Merchant Navy in 1966. Arriving in Fremantle in 1969, he jumped ship and began a new life in Australia.
The following year, he joined the New South Wales branch of the Federated Ship Painters and Dockers Union. His father, too, had been a Liverpool docker and John grew up in an atmosphere of working-class militancy and socialism.
He became the convener of shop stewards at the Garden Island Dockyards and was president of the NSW branch during the 11-week Garden Island strike when the union successfully defended its control of the roster system from the employers. ....

On the morning of New Year’s Eve 2019, the day that would end with her NSW South Coast home and art studio razed to the ground by bushfires, artist Penny Lovelock shut herself inside and played the clarinet.
Outside, the mercury had topped 38 degrees by 8.30am, and the backburn that was meant to protect Conjola Park from the Currowan fire, was ablaze. Sirens were blaring from fire engines on the Princes Highway, and helicopters hovered above her home gathering water from Lake Conjola to douse the flames. Rather than panic, the painter turned to her musical instrument to keep her cool. ....
