COLUMBIANA James “Jim” Harold Mong, 74, was born Aug. 31, 1946, in Blue Ridge, Ga. and died on March 8, 2021, at his home in Columbiana.
He was a graduate of East Palestine High School, and attended The Ohio State University and Pittsburgh School of Mortuary Science.
He worked alongside George Seederly and later Mark Beck, operating Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Homes until his retirement in 1998.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Janet Gregg Mong; two children, Daniel Mong (Kandis) of Moreland, Ga., and Angie Mong Haustein (Hans) of North Little Rock, Ark.; and three grandchildren, Reagan and Brody Mong and Paul Haustein. He also leaves behind four siblings, Joseph Mong of Salem, Ken Mong of St. Augustine, Fla., Linda Edwards (Dave) of Kenley, N.C., and Sam Mong (Kim) of Salem; 22 nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

Columbiana Esther Jean (Householder) Tucker, 96, went home to be with her Lord on February 2, 2021 at Mercy Health Hospital, Youngstown after hip surgery. Her daughter, Kathy, was privileged to be by her side, singing songs that will be sung at her home-going celebration at Jerusalem Lutheran Church, Columbiana on Saturday, February 27that 11:00 AM. Friends may call at 10:00 AM prior to the service at the church.
Esther was born to Marie and C. Blair Householder March 19, 1924 in Columbiana. She graduated from Columbiana High School in 1942. Since 1932, most of Esther’s life was lived in Columbiana. Esther married Robert Tucker on May 3, 1947. She was a secretary at both the Columbiana Foundry for 7 years and NRM for 23 years.

Wynn Firth Hawkins, 84, of Canfield, formerly of New Waterford, passed away February 11, 2021 at his home.
Mr. Hawkins was born February 20, 1936 in East Palestine, OH, the son of Paul Marion and Eunice Adele Firth Hawkins. He was a graduate of New Waterford High School where he was first team, all Ohio Basketball. In 1958 he graduated from Baldwin Wallace University where he once was BW’s all-time career-scoring leader and held BW’s fieldhouse single-game scoring record and field goal records. He was named to the Greater Cleveland Basketball All-Star Team and the 1956 American Press All-Ohio third-team. From 1960 until 1963 he pitched for the Cleveland Indians and went to work for the Indians in the sales department, as a scout and as a traveling secretary. He also was a guest columnist for the Plain Dealer in 1969 prior to a career with General Motors, Delphi Electric.
