GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) - A judge says the case of a 74-year-old Green Bay man charged with his 18th drunken driving offense will go to trial.
Wallace Bowers was arrested last month after a crash that took out power lines and caused an outage. He faces 15 years in prison if convicted, WLUK-TV reported.
Bowers had 17 prior operating while intoxicated convictions between 1988 and 2011, but had a valid license to drive at the time of last month’s accident. A law that went into effect in 2018 requires driver’s licenses to be revoked after a 4th OWI conviction. ....

Trial Ordered for 18th OWI Case Connected to Crash

GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A man charged with his 18th drunken driving offense was ordered Friday to stand trial.
Wallace Bowers, 74, had a valid driver’s license when he was arrested Jan. 8 after crashing into a power pole on the city’s east side.
His arraignment is scheduled for March 19.
Also Friday, a court commissioner rejected Bowers’ request to reduce the $30,000 cash bond.
Wisconsin law now requires driver’s licenses to be revoked with a fourth OWI conviction, if the previous conviction was within 15 years. But in this case, Bowers’ last conviction was in 2011, before the new law went into effect in 2018; so he had a valid driver’s license when he got behind the wheel. ....
