MORRIS, MINN. (vcsuvikings.com) – The Valley City State baseball team finished out the regular season in style on Wednesday, hitting six home runs in a dominant 18-3 win at Minnesota-Morris. The Vikings scored in each of the first five innings – taking a 14-2 lead – and ended the game by run rule after seven innings. VCSU finished with 17 hits in the game, and six pitchers combined to keep the Morris offense in check . Valley City State ends the regular season with a 22-24 overall record and have won their last five games. The Vikings are the No. 3 seed for the NSAA Tournament starting Friday in Valley City. VCSU’s first round game is against No. 4 seed Waldorf University at 5:30 p.m. Friday. ....
For the first time in school history, Waldorf University has a first-team All-American football player. The American Football Coaches Association announced yesterday that junior place-kicker Slater Gifford was selected to the first team, the first Warrior to receive such an honor since Waldorf became a four-year program.
Gifford, a Burlington, Iowa native, converted on 29 of 30 PAT’s he attempted and made 12 field goals. Gifford has done just about everything since arriving at Waldorf. He’s been a productive kicker, an all-conference selection, kicked a game-winner, and now, All-American. In three years, Gifford holds the Waldorf career PAT’s and field goal’s record, both of which will be elevated this fall. Though with all he’s already done, coach Finley believes Gifford will come back this season looking for more. ....
Hanna Family Celebrates a Rare Event AJ Taylor3 hours agoLast Updated: May 5, 2021 Colleges and universities don’t see this very often, but in the case of Waldorf University, it is happening at their commencement. A mother and her daughter will graduate together in three major areas of emphasis. DeAnn Hanna will be getting her Masters Degree in Organizational Leadership while her daughter will be graduating with a double major. One will be a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and the other will be a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. For DeAnn, this is not the first trip across the stage. She last went to Waldorf to earn an AA in 1991, but she will tell you that her daughter Madelynn was an inspiration and help especially during the pandemic. ....
VALLEY CITY, N.D. (vcsuvikings.com) – Jorun Hamre broke the single-season home run record Sunday as the Valley City State baseball team completed a four-game sweep against Presentation College. Hamre hit his 15th home run of the season in game one, breaking the VCSU record of 14 held by Bryan Swaenepoel (2001) and Stacy Fitterer (1989). Hamre’s blast highlighted a 5-4 victory in game one Sunday. In game two, Reed Butz pitched six shutout innings and the Vikings closed the series with a 10-0 win. VCSU outscored Presentation College 51-17 over the four-game series. Valley City State is now 21-24 overall and finished 14-9 in conference play. Valley City State clinched the No. 3 seed for the NSAA Conference Tournament starting Friday in Valley City. The Vikings will face No. 4 seed Waldorf University in the first round, Friday at 5:30 p.m. ....

This year’s Commencement ceremony will include online and residential students from both the 2020 and 2021 classes. Forest City resident and current Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Waldorf Lutheran College Foundation, Ray Beebe, will provide the day’s Commencement speech and be honored with an honorary doctorate from the University. Beebe was born and raised in Avoca, Iowa, and graduated from high school there in 1960. After receiving a B.S.
