Youth Corps helps protect wildlife, clean up open spaces in Eagle

The town of Eagle hosted the Rocky Mountain Youth Corps this week to complete multiple projects to improve trails and open spaces for all the locals who traverse them, whether it be on two legs or four.
The group’s main project was the removal of nearly 7,000 feet of unused and unmaintained barbed wire fence from the Abrams Creek Open Space property southwest of Eagle Ranch, according to a recent press release.
The town’s open space and trails manager Brian Lieberman said Eagle was lucky to benefit from the help of the Youth Corps for 10 days before the workers made their leave Friday. ....

CPW finds elk herds mainly unaffected by Cameron Peak Fire
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Despite burning 208,913 acres across Larimer County from August through December, it does not appear the Cameron Peak Fire had short-term impacts on the elk herds in Larimer County.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife biologist Angelique Curtis took flight in a Bell 407 helicopter to survey the elk herds for the first time since the fire, which is the largest ever to burn in Colorado. She classified roughly 4,200 elk in the seven hour flight on Thursday, Jan. 7.
Curtis used satellite GPS collars as a part of a new study launched one year ago to help locate the herds across the Laramie River Valley, Red Feather Lakes and the Cherokee State Wildlife Area. ....

RBC | Colorado Parks and Wildlife is seeking volunteers to fill two openings on the Habitat Partnership Program State Council. The Council is the oversight body for the Habitat Partnership Program (HPP), which works through 19 local committees to resolve conflicts between agricultural operators and big game as well as assisting CPW to achieve management objectives for deer, elk, pronghorn and moose. The Council meets two to four times per year in various locations to discuss HPP issues and opportunities.
The two vacancies are for one sportsperson representative and for one person representing livestock growers. Both the sportsperson and livestock representative must be residents of Colorado and be nominated by a local HPP committee. According to the statutes authorizing HPP, the sportsperson representative must also regularly purchase big game hunting licenses in Colorado. ....

Colorado Parks and Wildlife is seeking volunteers to fill two openings on the Habitat HPP, which works through 19 local committees to resolve conflicts between agricultural operators and big game as well as assisting CPW to achieve management objectives for deer, elk, pronghorn and moose.
The two vacancies are for one sportsperson representative and for one person representing livestock growers. Both the sportsperson and livestock representative must be residents of Colorado and be nominated by a local HPP committee.
The livestock grower appointee will represent the interests of livestock producers on the council. The person does not need to be actively involved in livestock operations but must have a working knowledge and experience in the livestock business. ....
