Minister Hackett announces the results of Call for new locally-led Farm and Community Biodiversity Initiatives
• Approved projects spread across the whole country
Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Senator Pippa Hackett today announced the results of an Open Call for Farm and Community Biodiversity Initiatives. 24 groups, of the 54 which responded to the Call, have been chosen to implement their projects over the next 18 months.
Listing the projects which have been allocated funding, the Minister stated,
“I am very excited to see the wonderful projects that this Call is going to fund. It is really positive to see the ideas so many small farm and community groups have come up with to impact positively on their own local environment. I am delighted with the range of projects which have been successful and also with the way they spread across the country. The response we got to the call proves there is huge concer ....

St. Lawrence Land Trust gets funding for avian survey

CANTON St. Lawrence Land Trust was among several organizations that received a Joseph & Joan Cullman Conservation Grant.
The grant for $2,300 was awarded for project title “Avian Surveys, Habitat Enhancement, and Improving Public Awareness of Birds at the Hart’s Falls Preserve in Canton.”
Joseph and Joan Cullman owned the Kildare Club just north of Tupper Lake, New York and loved the Adirondacks. The Cullman Foundation allows Northern New York Audubon to distribute funds to support projects occurring in the Adirondack, Champlain, or St. Lawrence region of Northern New York that are beneficial to birds.

Nearly complete, Hallock dam facelift has multiple recreational, safety benefits
Funded primarily by the Lessard-Sams Outdoor Heritage Council, the $2.3 million project, which began last winter, essentially “reconnects” the South Branch of the Two Rivers, a Red River tributary, through the strategic placement of rocks and boulders to create a series of rock riffles and rock-arch rapids structures that gently slope for several hundred feet downstream from the dam.
