Vehicles line up along Rockland Avenue to pick Belpre Elementary School students up from the Stone Administration Building/Early Learning Center after classes were dismissed because of a bomb threat Monday morning.
At a glance:
¯ Waterford, Beverly and Belpre students were impacted by bomb threats to the Wolf Creek Local, Fort Frye Local and Belpre City school districts Monday.
¯ The threats were delivered via the same voice over internet protocol number as last week’s threats to Wolf Creek Local Schools.
¯ Early dismissal impacted elementary and high school buildings for each district.
¯ All three school districts threatened Monday confirmed increased security will be in place in the districts today and Wednesday. ....

Mental and behavioral health disorders present real and palpable issues for children as they grow and develop.
In the time of the coronavirus, some of these struggles have become more pronounced.
The Mental Health & Addiction Advocacy Coalition and the Children’s Defense Fund-Ohio recently released a first-of-its-kind comprehensive report that looked into the demographics, resources and rates of behavioral health issues for youth in all 88 counties in Ohio, while also highlighting key progress and unmet needs.
According to 2020 data from Mental Health America, 48.6 percent of youth in the state of Ohio who have a major depressive episode do not receive any mental health services. ....

WCCC honors February students | News, Sports, Jobs


The Washington County Career Center honors its February Students of the Month, Curstin Giffin and Kane Clinton.
Curstin Giffin is a Belpre senior enrolled in the Sports Medicine & Exercise Science program, and she is the daughter of Dale and Beth Giffin of Belpre.
At the Career Center, Giffin is a member of the SkillsUSA youth organization as well as Interact Club and the National Technical Honor Society. In addition, she holds the office of class secretary. She has received awards for Principal’s List and is an Energy Bus Driver member for meeting all three criteria for 3.0 GPA or higher, 95% attendance or higher, and no office referrals. ....

Selena Wiggins is the daughter of Leonard and Kathy Wiggins.
She is a teen volunteer at Camden Clark Hospital; she plays soccer at the Belpre Soccer Club. She is a member of Educational Talent Search, BHS AERO Club and HAPAC, the Interact Club and works part-time at Taco Bell. She attends Washington County Career Center in the Medical College Prep program and has passed the STNA requirement. She is an honor roll student. She also volunteers at her church with the American Red Cross and is an altar server. Future plans include finishing her nursing program and becoming a registered nurse to work in a nursing home and eventually in a major hospital. ....
