State accepting COVID recovery grant applications from veterans organizations

OLYMPIA The state Department of Commerce and the Washington State Department of Veterans Affairs are accepting applications for a total of $1.75 in COVID-19 recovery grants for local non-profit veterans service organizations.
The two departments are looking to focus on organizations that have not been helped by state pandemic response aid and assistance, according to a press release from the Department of Commerce.
The grants can be used to cover pandemic-related expenses incurred from March 1, 2020, through June 30, 2021, to help organizations deal with “financial hardships” as a result of the state’s COVID-19 response. ....

Abbie Shull: Deaths reported at Pierce County veterans home amid COVID-19 outbreak

Jan. 6 Two residents of the Washington Soldiers Home in Orting died from COVID-19 on Jan. 2 and Jan. 3, according to a statement from the Washington State Department of Veterans Affairs.
Both residents tested positive for COVID-19 during routine weekly testing in December.
The Soldiers Home previously announced an outbreak of the virus began around Dec. 3, and at least six residents were hospitalized.
On Monday, the WSDVA announced four residents and three staff members at the Orting facility had tested positive for the virus, bringing the total number of cases there to 37 residents and 20 staff members. ....
