Governor Ned Lamont, Connecticut Acting Commissioner of Education Charlene Russell-Tucker, and Connecticut State Librarian Deborah Schander announced the launch of the 2021 Governor s Summer Reading Challenge – an annual, statewide program encouraging students to read books during the summer months. This year s theme is Tails & Tales.

Research indicates that children who do not read during the summer can lose reading progress made during the past school year,
Governor Lamont said. We want to encourage all students to read, learn, and have fun with books during the summer months.
Building confident and proficient readers will put our students on the path to become productive, engaged lifelong learners, ....

ROCKY FORD â A small school district in southern Colorado is getting a big boost in funding.
Rocky Ford is set to receive $40 million from the state.
The money will be used to expand the high school to include a pre-k through 8th grade addition, a new library, and a new gym. Both Washington Primary School and Jefferson Intermediate will be demolished as well.
A building provides so much more in terms of the resources and the things, the type of instruction that can happen and it not only improves the learning environment but of course the working conditions for teachers as well, Superintendent, Dr. Kermit Snyder said. ....

Rocky Ford School District receives $40 million BEST Grant

Rocky Ford School District R2 has announced that its grant application to the Building Excellent Schools Today (BEST) has been successful.
The proposed project is to build a new pre-kindergarten through eighth-grade addition and to renovate the high school. It was selected as the second-highest project priority-wise for the state of Colorado.
The total amount awarded by the state is $39,867,054.16 and the required match from the school district is $7,628,804.
The project includes the following: A new PK-8 addition to the high school; a new library and auxiliary gym; renovations to the high school kitchen making it bigger and more up to date; renovations to the high school cafeteria making it bigger and more conducive to student staff and community meetings; construction of secure vestibules to make the entrances to the high school safer; other safety and security upgrades to the high school including alarm and locking systems; and the demo ....
